There are two comment threads to this post. One is for offering up your skills as a beta, the other is for asking for a beta.

The opening comments of each thread show you the basic format to use when requesting or offering.

If you are willing to beta this year, please comment in the appropriate thread (and if you need one, check the offering thread to see if there is anyone who has already said they will beta before posting a request).

Thanks :)

What is a Big Bang?
Big Bangs are challenges which last a few months, where you sign up to write a story of a specific length, or to create art, by a certain deadline.
When taking part in 'normal' big bangs, were the initial sign ups are for the writers, each writer receives a piece of art from an artist to compliment their final story.
'Reverse' big bangs are challenges were the art is made first, and the artists receiving a complimenting fic in return - this will be running later this year.

Basically, it's all about challenging yourself to create something, something bigger or longer than you would normally, as part of a group of people doing the same.

OK, so here's the post you've all been waiting for, sorry it's taken me a little while to get it up.

The previous polls are now closed, thanks to all of you who filled them out, this time you only have to hit submit the once, I promise :)

Final decisions on word counts and such are as follows:

Both Big Bangs will be run on this community - and at separate times - we'll do our best to make sure it doesn't get confusing.

Normal Big Bang
Word Count: 15,000
Time allowed for writing: 10 weeks (there wasn't a lot in it, and a lot of you picked 'depends on word count' so it's down the middle between 2 and 3 months)
Check in: There will be a check at the half way mark

Reverse Big Bang
Word Count: 10,000
Time allowed to create art: 1 month
Time allowed for writing: 2 months

So, now that all of that has been decided, I give you the all important poll. There are three options for how we're going to run this year, date wise, and this is based on the results of the original poll, and the time allowances that were preferred.

/edit to say that this poll will close next Saturday 30th April

Schedule A
Normal Big Bang: Late May-Early October (May- Signups: June-August: rough draft, August-September: editing and art, September-October:posting)

Reverse Big Bang: Early October-Early March (October: signups, November: art, December-February: Writing, March: posting)

-

Schedule B
Normal Big Bang: Early May-September (May: Signups, May-July: rough draft, August: editing art, September:posting)

Reverse Big Bang: September-January (September: signups, October: art, November- Early January: writing, January: posting)

-

Schedule C
Normal Big Bang: June-October (June: Signups, June-August: rough draft, September: editing and art, October: Posting)

Reverse Big Bang: November-March (November: signups, December: art, January-Early March: writing, March: posting)

-

[Poll #1733183]

-

Comments on this post are screened - so you can all say whatever you want and only mod type people will know what you've said :)

Hopefully the schedule we end up using will work for the vast majority of you.

Don't forget, if you have any issues you can poke a mod, either by leaving a comment here or by email.

Thanks for your time

Now it's time for you all to make your opinions known, on word count, length of time and how exactly everything is going to be run this year.

This set of polls will be open until the 21st April (next thursday). Another post will then appear on the friday (22nd April) with polls concerning the final timeline.

The aim of these polls is to make sure any decisions we make work for the vast majority of you, and really it's the fairest way to do it.

As decided in the previous poll, we will be running both reverse and normal big bangs this year, but we have to decide how to do so in a way that works best for all involved, and the majority of the questions in the following polls are in regard to that particular question.
The polls also cover the word count and the amount of time given for writing.

Now, hopefully there aren't any 24 year old geniuses planning to steal themselves another poll ;)

And yes I am an evil mod and made each question a separate poll (it's not because I had a blonde moment - not even slightly *coughs*) - so you will have to answer each question, then hit submit, before moving on to the next. Feel free to throw things, preferably cookie shaped things but I'm open.

on to the polls, hidden behind here to save friends lists )

Thank for your time

OK, so this is not a poll post - that one will be appearing on monday, so check an eye out (we'll post to a few other leverage comms as well to get the word out).

This post is to let you all know, that there is now a dreamwidth mirror for this community (here) so whatever happens with LJ in the future, you'll still have a way to post/contact/keep up with what's happening. There's nothing on that account thus far, but it exists.

And there is now a Archive of Our Own Collection - here - hopefully it works (I have not really used AO3, so I'm getting used to it ;))

/end news update post :)
[identity profile] weaselett.livejournal.com
The poll is now officially closed. Thank you to those of you who voted.

It looks like we'll be doing both versions of big bang this year - we just have to hash out a rough timeline and consider just how to go about it. We could run them so that the two overlap, which might get complicated and confusing for you all, and possibly us as well. Or we could create a sister community and run the reverse big bang there. Or we could run one after the other.

The options are almost endless. Ish.

As you all may have guessed, there will be another poll coming very soon. With more questions (ones that actually work in my spreadsheet of doom). We'll also be pimping said poll out to the communities a bit more in the hope that'll get more of you voting.

We're doing our best to make sure that whatever happens this year, it's based on what you guys want. Ultimately we want as many people to be involved as possible and we want you all to enjoy yourselves and get something back for all the hard graft you put into your stories and art.

Unfortunately we can't provide you with clones of any of the Leverage Crew and even if we could, we'd so have first dibs. But we'll do what we can.

If you have any suggestions or questions, want to throw yourself to the lions volunteer to help mod this year, or just want to play poke a mod, drop us a comment to this post or send an email our way. We will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner (livejournal permitting).

I said yesterday that I would be making this post, and while it's not something that you'd expect to see on a Big Bang comm, I hope all of you will understand why this post exists. If not, feel free to skip over this post.
Fandom is an amazing place, we have all made friends and connections thanks to our participation in fandom, and it's times like this when we get a chance to spread the love a bit. Everyone involved in this community has written fic or made art at some point for free, why not offer to do so to raise some money for charity.

This post is here to serve as a reference point, for anyone who wants it, with links to all of the places that are raising money at the moment. [livejournal.com profile] help_japan has an amazing post here that goes into detail about what charities there are that you can donate to, and what the situation is at the moment with the donations.

If you've already offered up words/art/anything to be auctioned off, leave a comment and I'll add you to the list at the bottom.

The following communities/people, on LJ and on dreamwidth, are currently running auctions aimed at raising money to help Japan, if you know of any I missed, let me know and I'll add them:

On LJ - donations in USD - also has a delicious account that's keeping an index of the offers- ends March 31st

A banner image reading help_japan.
On dreamwidth - donations in GBP (pounds sterling) - ends 20th March*

On LJ - donations in Australian Dollars - ends 28th March

On LJ - donations in USD - ends 26th March (fill deadline April 10th)

*This community is also raising money Yunnan province in China: details on charities that are taking donations to help those affected there can be found here

The following people are pimping their skills for charity:

Thanks for your time folks,

The masterpost for 2010, can now be found here.

Before I start into Big Bang related business, I wanted to let you all know that tomorrow (16th March) I shall be making a post to the community, which will include links to all of the communities that are currently running auctions to raise money to help Japan - the main reason for that is so that those of you who are offering stuff and drop a comment onto the post, basically it's a chance to get the word out a bit more.

Now, it's time to start really thinking about this year's Big Bang - last year, a number of you said that you would be interested in doing a reverse big bang (art being made first, then used as a prompt for the writing) - which is still a possibility. The question is, whether you would all prefer a Reverse Big Bang this year to a normal Big Bang, or if you want to do both. There is also the question of when you all want this to happen.

So, with that in mind, here is a preliminary poll, mainly aimed at judging interest:

[Poll #1718275]

(EDIT: This poll will be open until 25th March - after which we'll take a look at the results and decide a plan of attack.)

Thanks

Artist's Note: I did art for two of the prompts given to me from the mods, because I couldn't decide between the two, and I've created little summaries for each. The summaries are kind of the story thoughts that were going through my head as they got made.  I hope you guys like the images and I would love to hear what you think. :)

Prompt 1~
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] deannawesson
Prompt: Substitute
Characters/Pairings:  Eliot/Parker
Rating: G
Warnings: none

Summary:  They were a family, a quirky one but a family anyway.  Eliot, Parker and Hardison had been like siblings from the start, fighting and tormenting each other and then banding together against the outside world.  But things change and sometimes you no longer look at a person the same way you once did.  How does Eliot tell Parker he doesn't want to be her brother, that he's not just a substitute for someone long gone?

Prompt 2~
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] deannawesson
Prompt: Flying (or Wings)
Characters/Pairings:  Sophie/Parker
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: none
Link to art:

Summary:  In a game dominated by boys, sometimes the girls found they needed to band together.  Nathan Ford knew he ran the team and that these two did what he asked...but he also knew they'd do almost anything, for each other.

Right, not long now *rubs hands together*. So this is the 'posting guidelines' post, which is more complicated than last years, but complicated can be fun ;)

Firstly, Authors Posting Guidelines

Authors, when posting your fics (aka when posting your 'masterpost' to the comm with the links to your fic) your subject line should read as follows:

Title of story: Author/s: Genre+Pairings: Rating

And you should use the following header:

Extra notes: if it has multiple parts, much &hearts if you link to the parts separately in the masterpost and link the parts together (so a link to part two at the end of part one etc) - I know a lot of people do that anyway, but not everyone does and it's one of those things that makes it much easier to read a fic.

Artists doing Art for Prompts: Posting Guidelines

When posting your art (or a link to your art, you can do either) your subject line should read as follows:

Prompt: Artist: Type of Art: Rating

And you should use the following header:

Artists doing Art for an Existing fic

A mix of the two above. Your subject line should read as follows:

Title of Fic: Artist: Genre/Pairing: Rating

And you should use the following header:

Fill out the header according to your art, but where possible provide warnings that relate to the fic (part of the aim being to get more people to read the fic as a result of your pretty art).

And finally: Artists making art for the big bang fics

There's no posting guidelines for you :p - your art will be linked to by your authors, but where possible please provide a short header on your art post (basic: made for thebigbangjob, for this fic by this author, the fic can be found here - include any warnings and a rating as necessary.)

If all else fails, look how I post my art as I have to go first ;)

-

As ever any questions poke us with a stick feel free to comment here or PM one of us moddly types.

Good luck everyone, and well done for sticking with us through everything, you crazy, awesome people ;)

Sorry, this is a day later than intended, time and the internet got away from me.

Each of you who has something to post, be it a fic or art made for a prompt provided by myself and [livejournal.com profile] charlies_dragon now have the chance to choose the day that you post your completed work. If you've done art for one of the two fics, then it should be posted on the same day as the fic.

Each day can only be claimed once, so it is first come, first served, but there are more days than there are people with stuff to post, so hopefully everyone will be able to find a date that works for them. Each date will be crossed out as it is claimed.

The dates available are as follows:

Wednesday 10th November ([livejournal.com profile] telaryn [livejournal.com profile] hickumu and [livejournal.com profile] weaselett fic and art)
Thursday 11th November ([livejournal.com profile] zortified and [livejournal.com profile] deannawesson fic and art)
Friday 12th November
Saturday 13th November ([livejournal.com profile] sian1359 art for prompt)
Sunday 14th November ([livejournal.com profile] tjb_waldring3 art for existing fic)
Monday 15th November ([livejournal.com profile] ldyghstwhisprer art for prompt)
Tuesday 16th November
Wednesday 17th November ([livejournal.com profile] deannawesson art for prompt)
Thursday 18th November
Friday 19th November
