Writers FAQ - Reverse Big Bang 2011/12
What is a Reverse Big Bang?
Where, normally, the authors would sign up first and produce a draft, which an artist would then claim the draft and make art for it. For a reverse big bang, the artist make art, which is then claimed by an author, who uses the art as the prompt for their story.
So basically, a Reverse Big Bang is exactly what it says on the tin - a reverse of a big bang ;)
Writers
What are the requirements?
We ask that each writer writes one fic, of at least 10,000 words, using one of the pieces of art that has been created for the challenge as a prompt.
You can write a single fic, or series of drabbles/short fics, for the piece of art you have claimed - but the minimum combined word count must meet the 10,000 words requirement.
You can also claim two pieces of art as prompts, and you can state you interest in doing so when you sign up. Note - you will have to write two separate fics - you can not create one fic for two prompts. We will require the draft of one of the fics to be submitted by the 19th February.
Can I make art and write for this challenge?
You can, provided you don't claim your own art.We would prefer that you only sign up to write if you are certain your own art will be complete.
Can I use a WIP, or write a sequel to one of my existing stories?
No - we would rather you write something completely new for this challenge, using the art as a prompt.
How does the claiming process work?
The draft art will be put up, in a locked post on the support community, for you to claim. The comment on that post will be hidden to all but the mods, and the writers will put in a claim for a piece of art.
We will ask if you want your art to be claimed by more than one writer or not, when you submit your drafts. The plan is for each piece of art to be claimed once (after which we would allow second claims).
Once all of the art is claimed - emails will go out to each of the paired artists and writers.
Can I write more than one fic?
As said above, yes you can, though we would prefer you to create only the one. If you are confident that you can write more than one fic prior to the deadline then you may claim more than one piece of art once the post opens for second claims.
Are there any restrictions to what fic I can write?
RPF isn't allowed - there are other big bangs for RPF, and while we have nothing against RPF, this big bang focuses on Leverage, and the characters, rather than the actors (the artists may have used pictures of the actors in other roles, but the story produced must be Leverage rather than RPF).
Crossovers, AUs and Fusions are all allowed but the focus of your story must be a Leverage character and you must use the art you have claimed as a prompt; so you will have to work with the 'restrictions' of that prompt. If the art involves a crossover, you fic should, if it doesn't, well, you'll have contact with your artist so you can always ask.
While the none of the art will be NC-17 rated, we aren't going to limit what ratings you can write.
Can I work with an artist on my own, without having to claim a piece of art?
No - for the reverse big bang, we would rather each writer produce a story for one of pieces of art that has been produced for the challenge.
What are the deadlines?
The art claiming post will go up on the 20th December, and will remain open until 8th January, or until all of the art has been claimed. You can claim one piece of art, if after a week, there is art that still hasn't been claimed, you will be allowed to claim an additional piece of art.
You will then have until 26th February to produce a draft - of at least 8,000words. The final draft must be over 10,000 words. If you are writing a fic for more than one piece of art, we will need to recieve one of your drafts by the 19th February.
The final draft deadline, for both art and fic, is the 11th March.
The posting period will be between the 16th and 30th March 2012.
What is the format for sending in our drafts? And can we send them in early?
You can send your drafts in as soon as you've finished, you don't have to wait for us to post the reminders.
All fics should be in pdf, doc (not docx) or rtf format. They won't be read, the main reason for asking for a draft, is to have a way to know that you will have a complete story by the deadline.
All drafts should be sent to: leverage.bb.mods [@] googlemail [.] com
Your header should read: your name, title, art used as prompt, draft
What is the posting format for the final pieces? And how will we know when to post?
Once we have the final drafts of everyone's stories and art, we'll work out a posting schedule, which will posted on the community. Your artist will post to the community, with links to the story/stories that have been written using their art as a prompt.
If you have any questions, whether it be something that isn't covered by this FAQ, something you want clarified, or just something you want to know, feel free to comment on this post, email us, or use the page-a-mod post (comments on that post are screened). We'll get back to you as quickly as possible.
